Frequently Asked Questions about Laser Hair Removal
What body areas can I get treated?
Any area, except around the eyes. This includes the upper lip, face, neck, underarms, bikini line, legs, chest and back.
How should I prepare for my laser hair removal service?
Please shave the area to be treated the day before or the day of treatment.
What about tanning?
Please avoid sun exposure (including tanning beds and sunless tanning lotions) for four weeks before and after each treatment, or use sunblock.
Is laser hair removal uncomfortable?
Some clients experience mild discomfort during the actual service, but the treatment is brief and the discomfort fades quickly. Redness is minimal after each service.
Will my hair grow back?
The FDA has classified laser hair removal as “permanent hair reduction” because periodic clean-up treatments may be needed in the future, usually due to the taking of certain medications or to hormonal changes such as pregnancy and menopause. Three to six treatments are required to achieve permanency, with five being the average for most areas.
How much time is there between treatments?
The length of time between treatments varies because laser hair removal is only effective on hair in the active growth stage. Your laser specialist will review a hair growth chart with you during consultation to determine your maintenance schedule.
How does it work?
Laser energy is light that has been converted into heat. The heat vaporizes the pigment below the surface of the skin. This prevents the follicle from producing new hair.
What is the process?
We apply ultrasound gel to the treatment area. The tip of the laser rests against the surface of the skin, scanning over the treatment area. Everything within the sapphire window of the chill tip is treated each time the laser pulses. Some of the hair will rise to the surface during the treatment, while other hair may take up to two weeks to shed. At the end of the two-week period, there will be a noticeable reduction in growth. With each treatment, it is more and more substantial.
